Is it kickoff yet?

football.gifI’m bored.

Really bored.

I’ve tried. I’ve written about rowing, sailing, water polo, cheerleading. I’ve written about baseball and athletes who have committed crimes.

But I’m ready for spring to end, summer to be over, and football to start.

Bet you are, too.

Kickoff can’t be that far off. Approximately eighty days, actually. No, I didn’t count the days on the calendar. A quick trip around the internet looking at official websites for different athletic departments let me in on the countdown. In fact, almost every website I viewed had a countdown going in the corner of the screen… “days, hours, minutes until kickoff.”

Sounds like I’m not the only one ready for some hitting.

Of course, first we have to weather the wrap-up of spring sports. Then it is on to the Olympics, which will involve many collegians. But then… it will be time to strap on the helmets and pads and get down to some serious stuff.

Then it will be time… time to make the drive to your alma mater. Tailgate. Work your way through the crowds, hand your ticket over. Walk up the ramp to your section, turn to walk into the tunnel that leads to your section. Walk out, and see the expanse of green, the crisp white lines, smell the freshly mowed grass…

Honey, I’m home!
